Firm Partner Jason Stephens was recently interviewed and featured in an article on the Super Lawyers website. The article discusses how to recover damages against a Texas local government and uses a recent case of Stephens' as an example.
In the case, Stephens recovered $250,000 – the most allowed by the state – for the son of a woman who died from catastrophic injuries sustained in a car accident caused by a Texas DOT vehicle. According to Stephens, the DOT vehicle was towing a trailer when it swerved into her lane of traffic, leaving her nowhere to go and no time to react.
The article highlights the unique challenges of obtaining compensation for a personal injury or wrongful death from the state government.
